The Virginia Fly Fishing Festival is underwritten by several sponsors including the City of Waynesboro and is further supported by raffle sales and donations. Half of all net profits go into restoration work on the South River, a stream once devastated by industrial pollution. The remaining funds are used to promote the following year’s festival. Your purchase of admission tickets, raffle tickets, and other VFFF items goes directly toward helping us turn the South River into Virginia’s first trophy brook trout stream. Please take the time to thank the sponsors who support us, and please consider purchasing their products.

The City of Waynesboro (www.waynesboro.va.us), also known as the “River City,” was recently ranked by Outdoor Life as #171 in the Top 200 Towns for Sportsmen, which listed locales where outdoorsmen might choose to relocate for hunting and fishing opportunities. The article also included statistics like median income levels, home values, and unemployment rates. Waynesboro was the only Virginia town that made this select list! The City of Waynesboro is the festival’s most important sponsor and provides much-needed advertising dollars to reach new festival visitors each year. Although the festival started with only a few hundred regional fly fishers, we now routinely draw thousands of fly anglers from as far as way as the Carolinas, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Georgia, Tennessee, and Ohio.

The festival especially appreciates the support of the Waynesboro Police Department, which provides 24-hour security for the festival. Although not evident at first glance (because of all their behind-the-scenes support work), the cheerful and supportive staff of the City of Waynesboro Parks and Recreation Department is also a huge help. These two agencies assist our volunteer staff to pull off the weekend’s festivities with little to no fanfare, but we sure appreciate their help. If you plan on traveling through Virginia this year, please drop by and check out the River City. Be careful, though: Once you experience Waynesboro’s small-town charm—and fishing in the South River, which runs through the middle of town—you might not want to leave.

After more than 150 years in business, the Orvis Company (www.orvis.com) remains one of the best-known and most respected names in outdoor living. Orvis returns as the festival’s Instructional Sponsor, and we encourage you to go by the Orvis tent and see all that’s going on there. Their free beginner and women-only casting classes are very popular—check them out! Orvis catalogs will be available this year, and many of their new products and clothes will be on hand. Best of all, this year you can win a $1,000 Orvis shopping spree by participating in the festival’s Grand Prize Raffle for only $20.

Gold Level Sponsors

Temple Fork Outfitters (www.templeforkflyrods.com) has taken the fly fishing industry by storm with their awesome—and astoundingly affordable—fly rods and other products. TFO offers a full line of fly rods and a host of spinning gear as well, which is suitable for nearly any fishing application. Need a small trout rod to make a delicate presentation in a mountain trout stream? No problem. Need a rod with serious muscle to land an angry redfish bent on taking you down to Davy Jones’ locker? TFO can hook you up. The festival is also proud to have a huge host of supporting TFO pro-staff members such as Lefty Kreh, Ed Jaworowski, Bob Clouser, Gary Dubiel, Brian Shumaker, as well as TFO rep Steve Monahan. We are especially excited to have TFO owner Rick Pope join us this year. Festival attendees should seriously consider enrolling in a paid casting class with one of these TFO pro-staffers.

Fly Fishing Benefactors
(http://www.flyfishingbenefactors.estoreadvanced.biz) is our newest Gold Level Sponsor, and we are pleased and proud to have them and owner Carl Craig join us this year. Craig and his organization are committed to conservation efforts like the Virginia Fly Fishing Festival. Attendees can know that when they buy something from Fly Fishing Benefactors, 100% of the profits go to a fly fishing charity. Fly Fishing Benefactors has joined the festival’s growing list of sponsors and is now acting as the order fulfillment house for the festival. We encourage you to see their full products line for yourself.

Dominion (www.dom.com) is one of the largest energy-producing companies in the country and is headquartered in Richmond, Virginia. Dominion has been a longtime supporter of the festival: A grant from the Dominion Foundation assists us greatly in promoting the Virginia Fly Fishing Festival Foundation Dinner. This dinner held at the Waynesboro Country Club is open to the public and highlights the achievements of last year’s festival and helps us cast a vision for future conservation goals concerning the South River. We appreciate Dominion’s continued support and encourage you to visit them at the newly constructed Dominion Pavilion located in Constitution Park.

Advertising Sponsors

Each of the magazines listed has been invaluable in promoting the 10th annual Virginia Fly Fishing Festival, and we encourage all our attendees to consider subscribing to one or more of these fine publications.

Eastern Fly Fishing (www.matchthehatch.com) is one of the most respected magazines in the fly fishing industry. Known for its invaluable “Notebook” section that accompanies every feature article, Eastern Fly Fishing appeals to fly anglers and other sportsmen as well as those who simply love fantastic outdoor photography. Columns on fly fishing history and specialty fly patterns created by industry guides round out the magazine. Eastern Fly Fishing’s Editor in Chief Steve Probasco will be on hand to meet readers at this year’s festival.

Virginia Sportsman (www.vasportsman.com) is a lifestyle magazine for readers who enjoy all aspects of country life. Articles on fly angling run alongside cover stories on classic Virginia towns and pieces on sailing, fox hunting, polo, vintage cars, wing shooting, and exotic destinations. Looking for a magazine that will teach you how to snowmobile, prepare gourmet venison dishes, distinguish the finest chocolates, and hunt big game in Africa? Virginia Sportsman is for you. Publisher Hay Hardy will be greeting readers at this year’s festival.

As one of the premiere magazines covering all facets of life in the Old Dominion, Virginia Living (www.virginialiving.com) is as apt to run a feature on the Commonwealth’s best barbeque as on a classic Virginia manor house. Fashion spreads and intimate profiles of famous and quirky Virginians. Mint julep recipes and book reviews of the latest works by Virginia authors. Hidden gems in the Old Dominion’s unique small towns and a primer on discovering the Chesapeake Bay. Wherever you’re headed, Virginia Living will take you there.

The New Dominion (www.thenewdominion.com) magazine, a division of Augusta Free Press, is much more than a calendar of events in the Shenandoah Valley. Rather than who, what, and where, The New Dominion asks why and how. This cutting edge publication offers readers in-depth coverage of local and regional politics, society, economic trends, pop culture, and more. Publisher Chris Graham has his pulse on all things Virginia: Indeed, Graham has interviewed governors George Allen, Jim Gilmore, Mark Warner, and Tim Kaine. Chris and his wife Crystal will be guests at this year’s festival.

Silver Level Sponsors

Appomattox River Company (www.paddleva.com) is the largest kayak and canoe dealer in the Old Dominion; their helpful staff will be on hand the entire weekend to answer all of your questions. They’ll have many products riverside so that you can see them for yourself. More than just a kayak and canoe outfitter, Appomattox River Company offers an extensive line of other items including paddles, seats, anchoring systems, and dry bags. Everything you need to get started in paddle sports is available from this industry leader.

Mid-Valley Press (www.midvalleypress.com) is the exclusive printer for the Virginia Fly Fishing Festival. If you’ve seen our attractive festival programs and posters over the years, you know why: Mid-Valley Press is as concerned about the quality of our rack cards, posters, and raffle tickets as we are. If you’re in the market for professional printing services, we highly recommend Mid-Valley Press.

Bronze Level Sponsors

Montana Fly Company (www.montanafly.com) believes that “It’s All About the Bugs”—and fly anglers who use the company’s realistic patterns agree. You’ll find Montana Fly Company products everywhere from Bass Pro Shops to your local fly shop. We’re delighted to have Wayne Childress, a Montana Fly Company royalty fly tyer, demonstrating his patterns at the festival. Company rep Ben Austin will join us to consider your hand-tied patterns. Think you’ve got a fly that’s got what it takes? Bring it to the festival and a professional will take a look.

Harrisonburg-Rockingham Bed &Breakfast Inns (www.innvirginia.com/hrbb) is our newest Bronze Level sponsor: Welcome! Fans know that a B&B stay can turn a trip into a getaway—an overnight stay into a weekend to remember. We encourage our attendees to consider a B&B stay while you’re at the festival, but we also remind you that these wonderful inns are open year-round. Anytime is a great time to enjoy a bed and breakfast.

Waynesboro Downtown Development Incorporated (www.waynesborodowntown.org) began the family-friendly Virginia Fly Fishing Festival ten years ago. Without the vision of WDDI, we wouldn’t be here today. They saw the South River and envisioned a conservation-oriented festival built around it—and the rest is history. We are the largest event of our kind in the country; several jurisdictions across the country have followed our lead, and we wish them well. Thanks to WDDI, the Virginia Fly Fishing Festival brings together business interests, local government, and everyday anglers to promote an urban waterway that benefits an entire community.

Redfish Roy represents the best in all of us. Unknown to nearly all attendees, Redfish Roy is not a company but instead an anonymous donor who has contributed financially to the festival over the years. In addition, he and his family volunteer each year to work in the hot dog stand, take tickets, move chairs and tables, and generally help out in any way they can. Redfish Roy doesn’t want applause, and we respect his wishes. But we would be remiss not to honor his faithful commitment to the Virginia Fly Fishing Festival. Redfish Roy, you know who you are, and we heartily thank you!
